What is Soft Tissue Therapy?

Soft Tissue Therapy is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is applicable not just to sports people but to anybody wishing to guard against or recover from a soft tissue injury.
— SMA, The Association for Soft Tissue Therapists

Soft Tissue Therapy can benefit anyone. You don’t need to be involved in sport at all. If you move, a treatment can help you!

Soft Tissue Therapy, also known as sports massage and deep tissue therapy, can help to improve your performance in all aspects of life. Whether this is at work, at home or in sport. It is helpful for managing injuries, everyday aches and pains and general life stresses. The treatments will be tailored to each individual and will be reassessed regularly to monitor your progress.

Soft Tissue Therapy covers more than just massage and while this is likely to be involved for at least part of your treatment, other techniques may be used to achieve the best outcome for you. These techniques include: soft tissue release, muscle energy techniques, neuromuscular techniques, myofascial release and positional release.

Following your treatment we will discuss how to progress going forward. This may include exercises to do at home, alterations to help you improve your function in daily life and any treatments that will be useful. This may mean coming back in for another treatment at a discussed interval. It may be necessary to refer you on to another practitioner to help you achieve your goals. If this is the case your consent will need to be given for any information to be passed on.
